Footloose

www.jimmccluskey.com Posted on July 21, 2013 by JimJuly 21, 2013

The middle of May we moved out of the beautiful lake-view place in British Columbia we had rented for the past five years. The middle of June we sold our house in Oregon. We are well and truly homeless…or at least houseless. We feel blissfully footloose.

We spent the past couple of weekends at festivals–the first one, the Oregon Country Fair, near Eugene, Oregon. For the three days of the fair it must be one of the happiest places on the planet. At least it is for me. I wrote about it last year, and I don’t think I could add anything to that. Click [here]  if you don’t remember.

We came back to Canada for the second, a smallish folk festival on Vancouver Island. After the Oregon Country Fair it felt intimate and relaxing, just what we needed. A lot of these festivals have a big-name headliner to bring people in (Judy Collins for this one–who is still in fine form at 72 and whose tales of the 60s made me think we live in boring times.) But it is often the unknown’s–at least to me–that I find most enjoyable and interesting.

We have tickets to two more festivals in British Columbia, which will keep us busy and on the road until late August. After that, well…. There is a saying, that if you want to make the gods laugh, tell them your plans. So, stay tuned.

Guatemala Gazette

a travel journal...
I started traveling to Guatemala in the mid-80s. When the internet became commonly available there a dozen years later I began writing a travel journal and emailing it to friends and family. This is the archive of those journals. GO>>>
